The Boteler monument has stood in St James’s Church for generations — a quiet but dignified witness to Biddenham’s history. Time, however, has taken its toll, and the stonework is now in urgent need of conservation. Without timely intervention, this important piece of our local heritage risks further decay.
We are seeking to raise funds for careful restoration by specialists who understand the value of preserving not just the fabric of the monument, but the memory of the community it represents. The Boteler family played a significant role in the life of the village and church during the 15th century, and their legacy deserves to be treated with the same care they once showed in endowing the chantry chapel where the monument stands.
Every contribution, however modest, will go directly towards this restoration effort. Many people find quiet satisfaction in knowing they’ve helped preserve something lasting — not just for today, but for future generations to appreciate. If you’re able to give, you’ll be helping to ensure that this part of our shared story is not lost to time.
There are donation forms available at the back of the church, and contributions can also be made online or by cheque. If you have any questions or would like more information, please don’t hesitate to speak to one of the churchwardens. Thank you for considering this appeal.
