Giving & stewardship

The cost of keeping the church running is approximately £80,000 per year to cover the employment costs of the vicar, the buildings, the heating, as well as supporting what we feel is God’s will for the wider community.

For this we rely on the giving of individuals in the church. In the Bible we are encouraged to put aside a percentage of our income to pay for God’s work, and we encourage everyone to give regularly to support the work of the church.

The most efficient way of giving is using Gift Aid, as the income tax that you have paid on the money that you give comes to the church at no extra cost to you! If you would like to give in this way, please contact the treasurer treasurer@stjamesbiddenham.com or pick up a Gift Aid form from the back of church.

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is an arrangement that allows charities (including churches) to reclaim tax on a donation made by a UK taxpayer. This means every donation will be worth 25% more, at no extra cost to the giver. For example, with Gift Aid the charity can claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated, which makes a huge difference.
