Every five years your local parish church, St James’s, is reviewed by the Diocesan Architect. In his quinquennial survey this year he made these comments, which we thought you would find of interest:
“This is a neat and tidy church and very well maintained.”
“All the plastered walls in the church are painted white with the stone detailing exposed. It all looks very neat and tidy and has probably been repainted in the not-too distant past.”
“A splendid monument on the north wall to William Boteler. Some paint and surface deterioration on the lower kneeling figures. It could do with a good clean from a conservation specialist.”
It is rewarding to read such comments and makes us realise that the work of The Friends of St James in raising funds to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the church is well worthwhile.
